For any book, there is so much that goes on behind the scenes to put those books in the hands of the readers. I got a firsthand look at it while I was working on publishing my book, Take the Lead.
In this replay episode of Leading Lady, I sat down with Hannah Kates, the CEO and chief editor at Lofthouse Publishing. She is my editor and dear friend and the whole reason that my book, Take The Lead, even made it out into the world.
Hannah is passionate about empowering others with publishing in an ethical way. There’s a huge need for better publishing and she is doing what she can to improve it as much as possible.

Hannah Kates is an author, editor, ghostwriter, and CEO of LoftHouse Publishing. After a brief career in pirate hunting, she set out into the world to make her fortune and ended up falling in love with storycraft instead. Since then, she’s helped dozens of authors bring their stories to life, guiding them through the treacherous roads of publication to find the best home for their books.
Hannah’s clients have gone on to secure publication deals, sign with agents, and even win major literary awards. She currently serves as a mentor with the UK-based #WriteMentor program and as a resident editor for the WriteHive program, where she is also a cohost for the ever-popular Word Nerd Café Podcast.
Hannah has penned over a dozen novels in a variety of genres including (but certainly not limited to) horror, memoir, and paranormal western. She currently lives in the murky depths of a remote pinewood forest with her husband and her less-than-faithful corgi, Bilbo Handsomepants.
