90: How to Opt-Out of Diet Culture and Love Yourself as You Are with Elizabeth Harris

SHARE

Have you ever really paid attention to what the world is telling you about your body? If you look closely, you’ll see that it is, honestly, pretty toxic. There are industries making billions of dollars off of our insecurities, but they shouldn’t be! We are so much more than our bodies.

In this episode of the Leading Lady Podcast, I sat down with Elizabeth Harris to talk about how you can opt-out of diet culture and find food and body peace.

Elizabeth Harris, the owner of Elizabeth Harris Nutrition and Wellness, is a registered dietitian, certified Intuitive Eating counselor, and certified dietitian nutrition coach. She is passionate about empowering women to find food and body peace with Intuitive Eating and body image healing.

By shifting the focus from losing weight to elevating wellbeing, Elizabeth helps women stop swinging between on-again, off-again approaches to food and health. She teaches them how to make all foods—and healthful habit building—fun again by showing them how to connect with, care for, and be kind to their bodies.

Her motto is “self-care, not self-control.” Because food is meant to be enjoyed, movement should make you happy, and we’ve all got better things to do than count carbs!

Elizabeth holds a Master’s degree in Nutrition, Healthspan, and Longevity from the University of Southern California and a Bachelor’s degree in Russian language and Slavic and East European Studies from the University of Connecticut.
In her spare time, you’ll find her keeping backyard bees, gardening, reading voraciously, and traveling the world with her husband and three teenagers—hitting every available farmers’ market along the way.

In Today’s Episode We Discuss:

  • How to opt-out of diet culture
  • Getting out of your comfort zone
  • How to work on body acceptance
  • Becoming the version of yourself you most want to be
  • Having self-compassion
  • Finding food and body peace

If you struggle with the pressures of diet culture or accepting your body exactly as it is, I encourage you to grab Elizabeth’s 5-day mini-course: How To Break Up With Dieting For Good

I hope this conversation helps you to stop dieting and feel good about yourself and what you eat!

Finally, I want you to remember that experiences that revolve around food offer connection, tradition, and friendship. If you focus on those things instead of the food, you will feel empowered!
