At one of the recent quarterly networking events at The Collective, the hosts started the meeting by asking everyone to share their wins. I absolutely loved that they kicked off the event by celebrating success. It’s so easy to focus on what’s left to do before the year ends, but when we invite ourselves and each other to celebrate, it’s a great way to pause and take inventory of what’s going well right now.
As I sat there listening to these incredible women share their achievements, I couldn’t help but think back to when I started my first company in 2004. I was a young mom with a newborn, diving into the business world with zero experience. Back then, I felt so isolated. I didn’t have a support system or anyone who really understood the challenges of being a woman business owner. It was lonely and scary, and I made a ton of mistakes. I was so focused on the work ahead of me that I didn’t stop to celebrate my success. Plus, I didn’t feel like anybody would even understand what or why I was celebrating.
That’s why moments like these, where we come together to celebrate each other’s successes, mean so much to me. They’re a powerful reminder of how far we’ve all come and the incredible community we’ve built together.
Why Celebrating Success Matters
Now, I know what you’re thinking. “But I have so much left to do before the end of the year! I can’t stop now to celebrate!” Trust me, I get it. High-achieving women are often wired to always be looking ahead, setting the next goal, and planning the next move. And that’s great! But here’s why I want you to pause to celebrate your success:
- It boosts your confidence: Acknowledging your wins reminds you that you’re capable of great things. This self-assurance can carry you through tough times and help you tackle bigger challenges.
- It provides perspective: Looking back at your journey can show you just how much you’ve grown and learned. It’s easy to forget how far you’ve come when you’re always focused on the next milestone.
- It fuels motivation: Celebrating small wins can give you the energy to tackle bigger challenges. It’s like giving yourself a little pat on the back – it feels good and makes you want to keep going.
- It inspires others: Your success can motivate other women in business to keep pushing forward. When you share your wins, you’re showing others what’s possible.
- It improves your mental health: Taking time to appreciate your accomplishments can reduce stress and increase overall happiness. It’s a form of self-care that’s often overlooked in the busy world of business.
- It helps you recognize patterns of success: By acknowledging what’s working, you can replicate those strategies in the future. It’s a valuable learning tool for your business.
- It attracts more success: When you focus on and celebrate your wins, you’re more likely to notice and create more opportunities for success. It’s like tuning your radar to pick up on the positive.
How to Start Celebrating Success
Now that we’ve talked about why celebrating success is so important, you’re probably thinking, “Okay, AliceAnne, I get it. But how do I actually do this?” Trust me, I’ve been there. When I first started out, I was so focused on survival and figuring things out that celebrating success wasn’t even on my radar. But over the years, I’ve learned that making celebration a habit can be a game-changer for your business and your mindset.
The good news is that celebrating success doesn’t have to be complicated or time-consuming. It’s about creating small, consistent habits that help you recognize and appreciate your achievements, no matter how big or small. And the best part? The more you do it, the more natural it becomes. Here are a few ideas to get you started:
- Practice gratitude: Every day, try to think of three things you’re grateful for in your business. This shifts your focus to the positive and can help you recognize successes you might otherwise overlook.
- Reflect regularly: Take a few minutes each week to jot down your accomplishments, no matter how small they seem. Maybe it’s landing a new client, finishing a challenging project, or even just sticking to your schedule for the week.
- Create a success ritual: Maybe it’s treating yourself to a nice dinner or buying yourself flowers. Find a way to mark your achievements that feels good to you. This could be as simple as a happy dance in your office or as elaborate as a spa day.
- Share with your network: Don’t be shy about sharing your wins with other women in business. It’s not bragging – it’s inspiring! Plus, it opens up opportunities for others to celebrate with you and maybe even collaborate in the future.
- Join a supportive community: Surround yourself with other women who will cheer you on and celebrate with you. This could be a local networking group, an online community, or even a mastermind group. My Leading Ladies Facebook group is a great place to share your success!
The Power of Community
Speaking of community, let me tell you, it’s a game-changer. Remember how I mentioned feeling isolated when I first started out? Well, now I’m part of an incredible community of women entrepreneurs, and it’s amazing.
I get together regularly with my community at Collective meetings, Ambassador masterminds, masterclasses, and other events at The Collective. We share our successes, brainstorm solutions to challenges, and just support each other. If you need a community like this, come to one of our events! We have something going on every month.

If you would rather build your own community, here are some ways to do that:
- Attend local networking events: Look for events specifically for women in business. These are great opportunities to meet like-minded entrepreneurs in your area.
- Join online groups: There are tons of Facebook groups, LinkedIn groups, and other online communities for women entrepreneurs. Find ones that align with your industry or interests. And of course, you’re welcome to join my Leading Ladies Facebook group.
- Start a mastermind group: Gather a small group of women entrepreneurs who are at similar stages in their business journey. Meet regularly to set goals, share challenges, and celebrate wins.
- Offer support to others: Don’t just focus on what you can get from a community. Look for ways to support and celebrate other women in business too. This creates a positive cycle of mutual support.
- Collaborate on projects: Look for opportunities to work with other women entrepreneurs. This could be joint ventures, guest blogging, or even just brainstorming sessions.
- Mentor or find a mentor: If you’re further along in your journey, consider mentoring a newer entrepreneur. If you’re just starting out, seek guidance from someone more experienced.
- Host your own events: Once you’re comfortable, consider hosting your own networking events or workshops. This is a great way to build your community and establish yourself as a leader.
Overcoming Obstacles
Women business owners often face some significant mental roadblocks that can make celebrating our successes challenging. These obstacles are sneaky – they creep into our thoughts and hold us back from fully embracing our accomplishments. And let me tell you, they’re incredibly common. In my years of coaching and connecting with other women in business, I’ve seen these same challenges come up time and time again. Let’s address them:
s
- Imposter Syndrome: This is that nagging feeling that you’re not really qualified or deserving of your success. It’s super common, especially among high-achieving women, and I’ve previously discussed it in both my blog and my podcast. Remember, you’ve worked hard for your achievements. They’re real, and you deserve to celebrate them!
- Fear of being seen as boastful: Many of us were taught that it’s not polite to “brag” about our accomplishments. But sharing your successes isn’t bragging – it’s inspiring others and acknowledging your hard work.
- The “I’m not there yet” mindset: It’s easy to think, “I’ll celebrate when I reach X goal.” But if you’re always waiting for the next big milestone, you’ll miss out on appreciating how far you’ve come.
- Comparison trap: In the age of social media, it’s tempting to compare your journey to others’. Remember, everyone’s path is different. Your successes are valid, even if they look different from someone else’s.
- Perfectionism: Sometimes, we don’t want to celebrate because we feel our achievement wasn’t “perfect.” But perfection is a myth. Every step forward is worth celebrating.
The Ripple Effect
Alright, ladies, let’s talk about the magic that happens when you make celebrating success a regular part of your business life. I remember when I first started intentionally acknowledging my wins, big and small. At first, it felt a little awkward, almost like I was bragging to myself or about myself. But as I stuck with it, something amazing started to happen.
It was like I had unlocked a secret superpower. Not only did I feel better about my work, but I started noticing positive changes in various aspects of my business and personal life. It was as if celebrating success created this beautiful ripple effect, touching areas of my life I hadn’t even considered.
And I’m not alone in this experience. Time and time again, I’ve seen this transformation in the women I coach and my network of fellow entrepreneurs. It’s like watching a flower bloom – slowly at first, and then suddenly, you’re surrounded by this vibrant, thriving garden of positivity and success.
Now, I want to share some of the incredible changes you might experience when you start making celebration a habit. These aren’t just feel-good moments (although those are great too!). These are tangible, powerful shifts that can have a real impact on your business and your life. When you start celebrating success regularly, you’ll likely notice some of these positive changes:
- Increased confidence: The more you acknowledge your achievements, the more confident you’ll become in your abilities.
- Improved resilience: When you face challenges, you’ll be able to look back on past successes for motivation and strength.
- Greater clarity: Recognizing what’s working well can help you make better decisions about your business direction.
- Stronger relationships: Sharing your successes can deepen your connections with your support network and business community.
- More success: As you tune into what’s going well, you’re likely to create more opportunities for success.
- Positive company culture: If you have a team, your celebration habit can create a more positive work environment where everyone feels valued and motivated.
Your Invitation to Celebrate
So here’s my challenge to you: Before you set your next big goal or start planning your next move, take a moment to celebrate how far you’ve come. Ask yourself:
- What have I accomplished that I’m proud of?
- What challenges have I overcome?
- How have I grown as a person and as a business owner?
- What skills have I developed or improved?
- Who have I helped or positively impacted through my business?
- What risks did I take that paid off?
- How has my confidence grown since I started this journey?
Really sit with these questions and give yourself credit for all you’ve done. You might be surprised at how much you’ve achieved!
And hey, I’d love to celebrate with you! Share your wins in the Leading Ladies Facebook group. Let’s create a ripple effect of women supporting and celebrating each other in business.
Closing Thoughts
Remember, you are exactly where you’re meant to be right now. Your journey is unique and valuable. By celebrating success and building a supportive community, you’re not only uplifting yourself – you’re paving the way for other women in business to do the same.
